so after taking my money are you going to solve my problem?

Post by huyi82 »

or am i going to have to return this horrible router in disgust?

8 hours of frustration trying to get this router to work and it still doesn't work, i've searched countless hours on google and it's been absolutely useless for help, i'm on the current firmware 2.32b out of the box. wifi keeps on dropping, (connecting, secured network, connecting, scanning) over and over no solution online whatsoever i've had to reset the router numerous times to bring back the wifi, i shouldn't have to do that, i cannot keep a solid connection at all so this wifi is useless for online gaming, port forewarding is real pain, i am trying to port forward a few applications and the download speeds in those aplications have grounded to a halt (5kb on average), again no solution online and no help, it's like this model dosn't exist on the internet at all, it's futile, i really don't like the fact that it's auto port forwarding because for one they don't do anything anyway and for two i would rather do them myself and would like the feature to be turned off.

5ghz is advertised on the box and from the shop i brought it from but yet it doesn't work at all, again same problem (connecting, secured network, connecting, scanning) i had to turn off 5ghz to use the standard 2.4ghz and that is unfair really, i paid for a feature that you advertised to work but it doesn't, i want to know what you are going to do to fix this problem.

if i don't get a reply i will never buy a billion router ever again, it just shows how much you care about your customers really, i had a 7800N and it worked flawlessly for 2 years before the wifi adaptor built in completely fried and did not turn on again, i've never experienced such a horrible router ever and i thought linksys was a bad company.

hmm the last update (2.32b) hasn't fixed the problem of my tablet(nexus 7) and phone (nexus s) having problems with the wi-fi, admittedly this router has had it's fair share of bugs but I've seen billion work actively to fix them otherwise I would be in an equally bad mood, however I'm not as they have actively tried to solve the problems.
My answer is
1) Chill
2) state the issue(s) you are having in detail
3) observe and try solutions
4) wait for billion to post a fix and/or beta firmware
4.5) if things get really bad I always keep my isp's router kicking about as a backup in-case things go bad (I also have a crappy belkin but let's not go there)

1. What devices are having issues with 5g wireless network?
2. What devices are having issues with 2.4g wireless network?
3. Have you tried to change the channel the router outputs on? (2.4g and 5g) or change the bandwidth to 20mhz?
4. Regarding auto portforwarding, this function is called 'UPNP' and can be disabled under 'Advanced Setup >> UPNP'
5. Regarding port forwarding, you must use the 'Virtual Server' section to port forward

Hi,

I had my 7800DX a few days ago and spent an afternoon getting wifi working.

I initially setup a single wifi entry on 2.4GHz and it all seemed fine.

When I implemented my wifi plan of personal+guest access on both 2.4 and 5 GHz it all fell apart. I was almost at the point of thinking I had a dodgy unit as I'd setup wifi a billion times before without this much trouble. Here's what I learnt, maybe it will help you.

Some of my wifi devices couldn't connect if the SSID was hidden although this worked fine on my previous router (Draytek 2800), this was because of the BSSID. Eg, on my Samsung Galaxy S2 I had to use the "Wifi Advanced configuration editor" app to allow me to set the BSSID, once this was done I was able to connect.

The other main problem turned out to be channel selection. Allowing the router to choose its own channel resulted in various wifi problems, such as strong signal but no data throughput, inability to connect and dropped connections - the symtoms kept changing and I couldn't home in on the problem. As a last resort, I manually selected a channel up the other ond of the channel list and it started working fine and has done since, even though the manually selected channel was being reported as being equally congested as the autoselected channel.

So with this router I'd suggest setting up the most simple wifi strategy 1st and test that, try different channels if there's a problem. And don't assume that your existing devices that have worked flawlessly before might not be the problem.

I have had nothing but good service and good experiences with Billion to date.

I understand the situation is frustrating, however I have installed two 7800Ns and three 7800DXLs so far and each one has worked without any major problems in mixed 2g/5g environments out of the box. There were a few issues on the older firmware with iPhones that now seems resolved.

If it were me, I would send the router back and get a new one to rule out problems with the hardware or some other issue and to save you time try to find out what is wrong . . .

Hope you get it sorted.

Erm not sure exactly but after 24 hours the wifi seems to stop working, they're both using 2.4g but i need to more poking to confirm that it's not the devices having issues. will post back if the problems continue. Though with this firmware I seem to be having other issues which i will get back to you with once (again) i have confimed

I bought a 7800dxl a few days ago and I am having the same problem as described by Garthark in his last post.

On 2 occasions (yesterday & today) the 2.4G wireless seems to have switched itself off (I have the 5G disabled all the time). The light on the front of the router stays on, but none of the wireless devices I have can see a signal. On the 1st occasion I turned the wireless back on by going to the basic wireless 2.4g configuration page, disabling the wireless and then re-enabling it. On the second occasion I turned it back on by changing the channel.

Firmware is 2.32b. Wireless driver version is 6.30.102.7.cpe4.12L08.4.

The schedule control is set to "always on".
