7800DXL wifi dropped to near zero

Post by Mardler »

Router suddenly developed a fault.

ADSL2+ connected at good speed and test on PC shows c.15.5mbps d/l.

Two wifi devices show 0.53 down/1.51 up and 0.24 down/0.06 up. This is 2G, 5G seems OK on the device that can use it though it is dropping out.

Any thoughts?

Try changing the channel, I assume the 5ghz band is working correctly?

Thanks for the swift response.

5G seems OK but the connection drops frequently.

There is no other wifi signal on the 2G channel other than a Chromecast and that has never caused a problem.

Also, both devices are sitting next to the router.

Hmm.

Router check gave no interference on Ch1 but I changed it to 2 anyway - speed jumped to 15.4.

Any idea what the problem might be?

Sounds like interference (even though the router reports no interference) you can always set it to auto and set a timer in minutes to 360 (meaning every 6 hours it will scan and change channel if needed)

Could well be. I will keep an eye on it.

Interestingly, we sometimes have a complete block of a low power TV mux transmission that we can only think is due to interference (the signal strength is perfect but quality zero, which is what leads to our conclusion).

Anyway, thanks again for your amazingly prompt attention.
