Noticed my 8800axl (firmware 2.32e) was reset this morning and G.INP appears to be turned on for downstream.

The cabinet is Huawei.

Checked out that PHyR setting, which is billion speak for G.INP according to previous post, (Configuration-WAN-DSL) is turned on by default for downstream but not for upstream.

Is there any reason why I shouldn't turn it on for Upstream?

The Openreach implementation of G.INP now applies it to the downstream only. This is a workaround for problems which the full implementation of G.INP had with non-Broadcom modems.

Thanks oldgrump for your very clear explanation. Despite my best efforts to decode pages and pages of stuff about G.INP I had not found that particular nugget, but I did find a few references to confirm that the 8800AXL is compatible with G.INP and since it was turned on this morning in the wee small hours I don't believe there has been a single downstream ES (error second). Touching wood now.
