Zen Fibre and bipac 8800NL

Post by Squarebasher »

Hi All

Hoping someone can help here.

Using the UK quick install guide I am trying to set the 8800NL as a VDSL replacement for my BT openreach router using the VDSL (fibre) configuration, I input my user name and PW in press continue, and the message comes up "please wait while the device is configured" it then comes up failed. I have tried ticking different boxes but nothing seems to work, as you probably realise I am no expert.

I have managed to set the router up using my BT openreach router and then the 8800NL, but I really want to get rid of the BT router.

Software Version 2.32d.dh14

Follow these steps

1. Login to the router (http://192.168.1.254), and click on 'Restart' on the bottom right hand corner, select factory default settings and click on restart
2. Once resetted click on 'Configuration >> WAN >> WAN Service'
3. Edit the PPPOE interface listed below PTM interface
4. Type in your username and password (Zen broadband username and password) and ensure the '802.1P Priority' is set to '0' and the '802.1Q VLAN ID' is set to 101
5. Click on 'Apply'
6. Now check to see if you have a internet connection.

I hope this helps :D

Unfortunately that has not worked, I noticed that the settings 0 and 101 were already in there, any other ideas?

When you say it did not work straight away, did you do a restart of the router?

I tried again no joy.

I went into the diagnostics page and got this, noticed it did seem to have the primary and secondary DNS numbers mixed up so I put that right but still no joy.

Code: Select all

Test the connection to your local network --- pppoe_0_1_0.101.101.101
Test LAN Connection ( P2 )	FAIL Help

Test LAN Connection ( P3 )	FAIL Help

Test LAN Connection ( P4/EWAN )	FAIL Help

Test LAN Connection ( P1 )	PASS Help

Test your Wireless Connection	PASS	Help

Test the connection to your DSL service provider
Test xDSL Synchronization	PASS	Help

Test ATM OAM F5 segment ping	DISABLED	Help

Test ATM OAM F5 end-to-end ping	DISABLED	Help

Test the connection to your Internet service provider
Test PPP server connection	PASS	Help

Test authentication with ISP	PASS	Help

Test the assigned IP address	PASS	Help

Ping default gateway	FAIL	Help

Ping primary Domain Name Server	FAIL	Help

Have checked under 'Advanced Setup >>> Routing >> Default Gateway' to make sure your PPPOE connection is listed under 'Selected Default Gateway Interfaces'

The configuration wizard failed for me as well on my Zen fibre setup and it was changing the priority and VLAN ID to the values above that got it to work.

This image from the zen forums is what I used to setup my new 8800nl successfully - http://i.imgur.com/OTDbjf3.png
