Upgrading 8900AX-2400 to d46 breaks VDSL

Post by liteyear »

I've just upgraded our BiPAC 8900AX-2400 from the firmware it came with (2.52.d41 maybe?) to the latest on this forum (2.52.d46). I reset to factory defaults at the same time.

When the router rebooted, the VDSL line synced at the appropriate speed, but no manner of fiddling with the WAN settings would result in a successful VDSL connection. The logs would always only show:

Code: Select all

Jan 1 00:26:14 daemon notice syslog: std_init_disc - 115 - ...

Jan 1 00:26:14 daemon notice syslog: session_connect - 695 - retransmits = 0, retries = 8...

Jan 1 00:26:16 daemon notice syslog: send_disc - 470 - Sent packet - Code: 0x9 ...
Jan 1 00:26:16 daemon notice syslog: session_connect - 695 - retransmits = 1, retries = 8...
Jan 1 00:26:19 daemon notice syslog: session_connect - 741 - going to send_disc...
Jan 1 00:26:19 daemon notice syslog: send_disc - 470 - Sent packet - Code: 0x9 ...
Jan 1 00:26:19 daemon notice syslog: session_connect - 695 - retransmits = 2, retries = 8...
And so on for at least 15 minutes or so.

I've swapped in another router and the VDSL connection is established without issue. I've double checked all settings and tried various alternatives, with no change in behaviour. This router was only bought a few months ago and has only ever been used on this Internet connection.

We are in Australia and are connected to the NBN.

Could there be an issue with this firmware version and VDSL connections?

My next step is to try to downgrade to d41, but the challenges in finding a reliable source for firmware releases doesn't provide a lot of confidence.

Sure enough, I "upgraded" to 2.52.d44 off the Australian site and everything is back up and running. My what a goose chase.

It probably the VLAN ID, (we have the VLAN ID set to 101 for all UK firmwares) I assuming in Australia this is not used, hence you were unable to connect.
