Hi Guys

We need some help from customers who are stuck in DHCP CLIENT IN PROGRESS, we need you to help debug the issue using wireshark.

Here are the steps to help us capture 2 sets debugging info

A. WAN Profile – Pure Bridge

Please kindly follow below step and send us the capture packet:

1. Use 7800N Firmware ver. 1.06g

2. Set up WAN Profile to Protocol “Pure Bridge”

3. Customer PC (Windows/Linux) must connect to 7800N LAN port and start sniffer.

B. WAN Profile – MPoA

Please kindly follow below step and send us the capture packet:

1. Use 7800N Firmware ver. 1.06g

2. Set up WAN Profile to Protocol “MPoA” and insert value in ClientID

3. Customer PC (Windows/Linux) must connect to 7800N LAN port and start sniffer.

Once captured please submit a ticket on www.billion.uk.com/esupport and put the title as SKY MER debug capture, I will look out for it and send it over to our engineers ASAP

If the file is too large, please submit a ticket anyway and we should be able to provide your with a FTP link to upload your captures.

Just like to say, thanks in advance, and hopefully we can get passed this issue with the help of our forum friends.

It's a great shame that other manufacturers (eg Netgear) aren't so responsive to issues.

Well done Billion. :D :D

Hi,
Been having a look why MER stopped working on my 7800N
Having a look at my sky provided router and it is no longer connecting with MER but with PPPOA
On doing a trace route it looks like i am now going through easynet and not sky

traceroute to bbc.co.uk (212.58.241.131), 64 hops max, 52 byte packets

Anyone else stuck on DHCP CLIENT IN PROGRESS, that can confirm the sky router is not connecting via MER anymore??

It might help with pin pointing the issue.

Have you put your actual sky username & password? User name should be (MAC address) @skydsl. And your password should be generated from visiting - www.CM9.net/skypass/ . To get the infomation you require you need to have your sky router setup to extract the info. Then complete the username & password fields that you have extracted from the sky router in the user name & password fields on your billion 7800N router. Ensure you have the UKBillion 7800NV6_1.06g Firmware flashed to your router - ensure your flash is set to reset to factory settings! Then Input the info as above you need the connection to be MP0A (RFC1483/RFC2684, Multiprotocol Encapsulation over AAL5) & Set VCI to 0 and VPI to 40. That should do the trick.

I have never tried my sky router as I've always had my own. However i did try the sky router yesterday and it connected via PPPoA.

If the sky routers went back to PPPoA can you not just use that method in the 7800 to connect?

SKY have not returned to PPP 0A they are busy updating there network on more than 1 level. Sky took over several ISP's so they are in a transpision period , Busy transfering the network over to MER for normal ADSL. Personaly i feel they should be informing ppl as part of there T&C but hey how the don't bother! There are still parts of there network that use PPP0A but its a dying bread!

ARE YOU PUTTING YOUR SKY ROUTERS USERNAME & PASSWORD IN THE CLIENT ID? DO NOT PUT AS DESCRIBED WORDS username|password. PUT YOUR ACTUAL USERNAME & PASSWORD IN THE REQUIRED BOXES!

Have you extracted your User Name/Password from the Sky router?

What Sky router do you have?

It should be in this format:

Username = XXXXXXXXXXXX@skydsl < Letters numbers and Caps
Password = XXXXXXXXXXXX < Letters numbers and Caps

It is always best to copy and paste it into settings of the router.

Skys MER uses the customers User Name and Password hidden in the router.
