BT fibre optic home Hub 3 - do i need it?

Post by a5ian300zx »

Hi,

I have just had BT fibre optic 80Mb installed with home hub 3, I want to get rid of the home hub 3 and use just my Billion 7800n router/modem, is this possible? or do i need to use it in conjunction with the home hub 3?

YES GET Rid of that horrid BT Homehub 3 ... i did .... use the 7800N ... connect the BT EchoLife modem to the 7800N EWAN port and go into the 7800N webadmin

Set the Router to use EWAN Port, select Protocol to PPPoE, keep NAT enabled, DNS select to Automatic, leave MTU as default 1492, leave IP as 0.0.0.0, enter Username bthomehub@btinternet.com, enter Password as 1234.... Save the config and reboot the router

and say hello to mass speed and Wireless N 300mbs and 4x 1gig eth ports compared to ... the homehub 3 only does wireless n 150mbs and 3 x 10/100mb eth ports + 1 1gig eth port ( BT = CHEAP SKATES !!!) .... also if your opted into the BT FREE WIFI hotspots the homehub has a hidden wifi channel you cant turn off that allows people to walk past your house and see a free open hotspot that they can use small portion of ur connection

make sure to flash 1.06g http://www.billion.uk.com/esupport/inde ... mware-106g has a new Wireless driver that i find is a lot better

Hi,

thanks it worked perfect.

same as home hub 3
75Mb download
15Mb upload

home hub 3 ping is 14ms
billion 7800n ping is 17ms

q) the echolife seem like it just takes the adsl connection then normal ethernet cable out, why cant we just plug the adsl in the billion and let it handle to fibre connection?

thanks

The 7800N is not a VDSL modem, it is a ADSL modem, with EWAN. Your BT Echolife modem is VDSL modem (fibre modem).

We do sell the Bipac 8200N VDSL modem.

I am not quite sure what features you want to use/need, so I have attached a link with more information about the product.

http://www.billion.uk.com/product/vdsl/8200n.htm

Let me know if you have any questions.

WOL

Thanks

No gigabit ports
N Wireless
Not tested the wireless range, (concentrating on VDSL performance)
It has WOL (wake on lan function)

I hope this helps :D

What do you mean by "my flow control is enabled on my Ethernet connection"?

Can you still ping the internet (ping 8.8.8.8 in cmd) when the issue occurs?
