7800n and SNMP (PRTG Network monitor)

Post by oxygendebt »

Hi all - I need some advice.

Just swapped a Draytek 2820n for a 7800n. I monitor SNMP using PRTG Network Monitor.

I can't get this to work in the 7800n; I have the default settings in the SNMP access control page of the 7800n. I'm running the latest Australian firmware (1.06f.dc1).

Any guidance would be wonderful.

thanks!

I have the same question. I'd like to use PRTG to meter the network usage (ADSL).

SNMP is a new and seemingly black art to me. Having arrived at the screen shown below, what IP address must I enter to the right the 'public' and 'private' communities?

And do I need a Username and Password for SNMP V3? Thanks

I resolved my issue very easily - I had forgotten to change the (new) router IP address that PRTG was pointing to. That was why it didn't work for me when I posted!

To answer your question, based on my experience: you don't need to specify an IP address - leave those fields blank. Likewise, leave the V3 fields (user/pass) blank.

Apply->save config and reboot the router.

Once installed, use the autodiscover tool in PRTG to set up. It's an excellent piece of freeware and for most home networks the 10 sensor limit on the freeware version is adequate.

Thanks for your reply.

I duplicated your approach and now it is working for me too! :)
