ADSL modem appears to fail to try to sync after power cycle

( 2 day old owner here - 7800n updated to latest 1.06d firmware )

Can I just check that my procedure to configure the 7800n is valid ?
- Basic Setup of ADSL params
- Click Apply to all settings
<< It reboots as part of the setup process, syncs with the exchange and PPP connects just fine - all is OK >>
- Save config to FLASH

Then ...
I tweak , using advanced mode, the advanced settings I want to change and then ..
- Save this tweaked config to FLASH

The reason for the question is that twice now when I power down the router ( I am fiddling with another router and hence need to disconnect the 7800N), and then power it back on, the 7800N doesn't seem to want to try to sync with the exchange.
It looks like the adsl modem is effectively disabled .

The 7800N is happy apart from this ( LAN ports work, wifi comes up , admin interface works etc etc ) but the ADSL light stays resolutely off.
Checking the settings reveals that they appear just as I entered them ...
Poking various ADSL settings has no effect, nor does another power cycle.

The only way to recover this situation is to restart with default settings ( via the admin interface ), reenter via Basic mode the ADSL settings and then the modem appears to wake up and it connects just fine ?

I cannot work out what I am doing wrong ....

Not sure what you mean by tweaking via advanced mode.

Tweaking the SNR is done via http://192.168.1.254/snr.html - "Apply" and the router will reboot > Save Config and "Apply" for it to write to the Flash.

Have always found this is best done wired, but wondering if you may be setting it too low for your Attenuation and line quality, that the errors could be preventing it from reconnecting - certainly puzzling.

Once you have got it reconnected, leave the SNR at default rather than tweaking and see if it does it then.

tomken - appreciate the thought but I am not touching the snr ( my line is incredibly stable and as such I don't need to touch it )

I am not touching anything to do with the adsl modem/ppp settings, as they don't need modification post the basic setup.
In advanced, I am setting a new ip adress in the 10.x.x.x. range , and the corresponding dhcp address range, setting a few reserved ip addresses for certain pcs, setting up wifi mac filter for the clients, disabling ip6 , set block wan ping, and setting up up 2 wifi timed schedules.

None of this should touch the adsl modem functionality at all .
I will give it another go myself in a couple of days ( my previous router had a multiple restart fit, and I have to be careful not up upset the dslam again and get a low ip profile) , but appreciate the offer to try it yourself. I will let you know how it goes

Just an update ....
I still had this problem as outlined in the first post, and never got to the bottom of it.
Its such an obvious bug that it must have been something specific to my config that caused it, else others would have seen it as well.

However, the latest firmware release 1.06f.dc1 seems to have fixed it

Hi rossgrey and thanks for the update and glad you've got things working at long last.

It looks like the explanation will go unexplained as it should have worked equally as well with the 1.06d f/w although some have had problems with that f/w.

Given that the UK 7800Ns are supposed to be all to the same spec, I've never understood why some have problems and some don't except where the router has proven to faulty, or as in one case on the forum, not compatible with their ISP.
