how to restrict bandwidth usage by xbox

Post by grr_runner »

Hi,

My son is hogging too much bandwidth in our house when he plays halo on his xbox.
I propose to restrict his bandwidth allowance using the QOS feature.
A previous forum posting (viewtopic.php?f=9&t=24) showed how to limit a uTorrent user.

I've added 2 rules to limit his bandwidth to 10%; one for LAN->WAN & one for WAN->LAN, but I have no idea about the internal port parameter.

Can anyone advise
1) if this is needed for the rule
2) what it should be
3) if this rule will reliably work - I havent set any static IP addresses - does this mean that the xbox wont necessarily always be on 192.168.1.100?

thanks in advance for your advice

It will work OK without setting specific port numbers.

You should really set it up a static IP address because the IP address can change but make sure it's below 192.168.1.100 and adjust the QoS rules accordingly or change the lowest DHCP address to 192.168.1.101 otherwise the DHCP server might dish out the same IP address to another device which then causes problems.
