Setting up 8800NL with sky Q fibre broadband

Post by Trafford lad »

Hi all,

Ok so I have recently changed from BT Infinity to sky max broadband and I’ve been informed by sky that I have to use there sky router, but I’m not very impressed with the WiFi it isn’t great and often drops around the house

I would like to put my 8800NL back online but I can’t find out what the username and password is.

I contacted sky who said the only username and password they have is admin and Sky

Both will not work on the 8800NL - can anybody help, I’ve had a search online and it appears sky don’t like to give out the real username and password for use with third party routers but surely that’s my choice?

Thanks

You need to find a way to extract your broadband username and password from the Sky router, once done you can setup the 8800NL in either two of the setup modes listed below

1. ATM DSL = PPPoA VPI=0 VCI = 38 VCMUX username and password entered (THIS IS FOR ADSL)
2. PTM DSL = IPOE (IP over Ethernet) '802.1P Priority' = 0, 802.1Q VLAN ID = 101 Option 61 Client ID = your username and password with a '|' in between eg username@skydsl|password (THIS IS FOR VDSL/FIBRE)

You should be fine, there are lots of Billion users here, using their device with Sky. (looking at the top post it states)

"DEC 2016 - It is no longer a requirement to extract your username and password, at least for fibre connections. For several months now as long as there is an option61 string sent then anything will work
e.g. abcdefgh@skydsl|1234567890abcdef will work "

All working, thanks for the advice, and my 8800NL appears to be giving better WiFi connectivity then the sky issue q hub.

Going to monitor but so far so good :D
