mac client not connectiong to 7800n vpn server

Post by danh123 »

Hello

I have successfully connected a windows client to my 7800n vpn server but I cannot connect any mac. I have tried an imac, iphone and ipod but none will connect. I susspect it is a router problem, although why it connects using a windows machine and not a mac i really dont know. I can see in the logs the mac trying to connect but i just get the following.

Oct 03 14:53:07 daemon pppv[28743]: Plugin /lib/pptpd-logwtmp.so loaded.
Oct 03 14:53:07 daemon pppv[28743]: pppv started
Oct 03 14:53:07 daemon pppv[28743]: Using interface pppv0
Oct 03 14:53:07 daemon pppv[28743]: Connect: pppv0 <--> /dev/ttyp0
Oct 03 14:53:07 daemon pppv[28743]: Modem hangup
Oct 03 14:53:07 daemon pppv[28743]: Connection terminated.
Oct 03 14:53:07 daemon pppv[28743]: Exit.
Oct 03 14:53:25 user syslog: Disable PPTP process 27167.

Does the remote user need to allow a port on their modem? Is so why does the windows client not need the same?

Any Help most appreciated

Dan.

The 7800n has the latest firmware.

Try changing the PPTP tunnel to 'Stateless' on the 7800N

Have you tried with a iphone over 3G?? Normally this works, not 100% sure on a iMac.(I assume there isn't that much difference between the client on the iphone compared to the imac)

Yes that did work. that is why i suspect it is a router setup problem. so what port is the mac using that a windows box isnt? Should i open a port. I really dont know.

You can try and DMZ your IP address of your iMac but I don't think that is the issue, as the windows machine is working and so is the iPhone, so it does seem like the issue is not with the Billion router.

What router are you using at the remote location?

I have a friend in taiwan and he said his modem is a zyxel (not sure of the exact model) and in the uk the modem is bog standard talktalk stuff. I will try the dmz suggestion soon as i have to rely on a friend.

Another thing you can try is to turn your iPhone to a wireless personal hotspot, connect your iMac to wireless network (from your iPhone) and try the VPN connection again.

This can rule out a issue with iMac settings, if it works then it is something to do with the modem/router you are connecting through.

Not each VPN supplier offers services for a mackintosh software system. This can be why you've got to pay lots of your time observing every VPN. You will notice an honest VPN supplier, however if it doesn't provide a association to mackintosh package, then it's useless. The software system is simply totally different than the favored Windows package and needs to be connected otherwise to the VPN. Obtaining a can secure any of your net traffic and still give you all the services you'd get with the other laptop operational systems, however is ready up otherwise. This can be why finding the right VPN is such a challenge.
