Logging on in Windows 8 (IE 10)

I have just installed Windows 8 Pro and find that trying to log on to the Bipac 7800n from IE 10 on the desktop gives a mostly grey Web page with little data and trying from IE 10 on the Windows 8 GUI is even less successful as the router cannot be found.

The Firmware is 1.06e.

Has this issue been addressed in a later update?

I don't have problem with IE10 (last firmware 1.06g). Have you try with another browser ?

Ok, all solved.

Logging in and receiving data from the desktop mode was incredibly slow first time. Minutes went by which is why I gave up. I suspect Avast virus checker was doing its Juju.
Anyway, eventually the panels filled with data and all became snappy. Logged out and back and all worked fine.

The new Windows GUI IE version didn't want to know until I realised there was a prompt in the lower R/H corner asking if I really, really wanted to allow this local network connection to have access. Said yes and all was goodness and light once more.

So, lesson learned. Have more patience and watch for obscure messages in taskbars.

Update on this.

I seems it is a conflict with Avast anti-virus. It doesn't play nicely with the WEB interface of the Billion 7800n. I have to temporarily disable the Network Shield to get the Billion control interface to load all its panels.

Hopefully, Avast will fix this as it is not only the Billion that is affected if you Google the problem.

Windows 8 has it's own built-in anti-virus and anti-malware software (Security Essentials), so it's probably not necessary to be running any other anti-virus package at the same time, especially if it's slowing the system down or causing conflicts.

I have used Microsoft's Security Essentials with Win7 and now Win8 and it works well enough and is free.

Yes, I have used Security Essentials before but it is not one of the more successful at protecting the system, at least, according to review sites. Avast is regularly near the top of the reviews and the basic version is free.

It doesn't appear to slow down the system and the only flaw appears to be the refusal to play nicely with the Web configuration interface with quite a few routers.

I can get round it by disabling the Network Shield whilst working on the router configuration. Something I need to do once in a while.
