Sky broadband Billion 7800n connection droping each day
So I have been with sky broadband for few months now, moved over from O2. Now, the problem I am facing is that for some reason the connection drops once each day and it is always when I am not using it so usually at night time. I for one am not sure whether the setting I have for the connection are correct or not but in the past I have had maintained a connection for 25 days, which is still the record. The problem is not too severe as the drop is never when I am using it but because of this drop the DLM is giving me lower speed than what I had with O2. To be exact I synced at 16,800 with O2 while with Sky I sync at 13,304. So can anyone shed some light on this and possible suggest any reasons why this may be happening.

Re: Sky broadband Billion 7800n connection droping each day
Thank you for replying I appreciate it. Now the SNR is currently Downstream - 5.0 Upstream - 4.4 and as I have recently rebooted the router I am unable to provide the SNR reading when the connection dropped. I would be able to provide this some time tomorrow but how I go about checking the SNR when the connection drops is something I am not familiar with so would require some assistance.

Re: Sky broadband Billion 7800n connection droping each day
I think the SNR reading might be a issue, try setting the SNR tweak page to 150 (http://192.168.1.254/snr.html) this will lower your downstream value, but it should increase stability.Shinigami wrote:Thank you for replying I appreciate it. I can't afford to have even lower speed when with O2 I have never had any down period in over 5 years and that with much higher speed. I see there was again a drop on the line and stats I have are listed below.

From looking at the logs, all we see is a drop in the ADSL connection, have you tried to reinstall your o2 router to see if the same issue occurs??

Re: Sky broadband Billion 7800n connection droping each day
I am not with O2 rather I am with SKY as O2 sold off their broadband service to them. However, I have now swicthed back to the SKY router and the connection has not droped in the last 18 hours and will have to see how it plays out. I wanted to ask one thing though, that is about the PPPoA vs PPPoE. On the billion router I set this this PPPoE while I have checked the SKY router and that uses PPPoA, so I wondering whether this could be a factor that is impacting the connection.

OK I have now changed to PPPoA on the billion router as well now and it is working so will let you know how it goes.

Just reporting back for the benefit of other people who may encounceter this issue in future. Well it has been over 11 days now without any disconnect since I changed to PPoA from PPoE.
