Ethernet cable from laptop into DXL - "LAN is now connected" - IP Address 192.168.0.12
Wireless connection to HH5 - IP Address 192.168.1.102

That's strange as the default DHCP range is 192.168.1.100 ~192.168.1.199, (when the device has been reset)Trafford lad wrote:sorry forget that last post.

Has your computer got a static IP set to it?? If it has change it to 'Obtain a IP address automatically, and Obtain a DNS Server automatically' then check the IP address your computer has from the 7800DXL, it should have a 192.168.1.x IP address, when you have that IP address you should be able to login using http://192.168.1.254
All the above is after the device has been reset back to factory default settings

Finally after changing the IP address as you suggested - i am logged into the DXL.
I have gone through the quick set up guide and the process says succesfull - However
when refreshing the wireless networks and connecting the the DXL - I cant get on the internet even though the wireless icon says connected ?
Wireless HomeHub Connection: 48Mbps
Switch to:
Wireless Billion connection: 54Mbps
Am i supposed to be able to access the internet when connected to the DXL - or does this process still involve internet access via the HH5 with the billion as router only

Once the 7800DXL is configured to use a Ethernet connection, the 7800DXL will work as a router only, so you will need the HH5 connected to the EWAN port on the 7800DXL.Trafford lad wrote:Finally after changing the IP address as you suggested - i am logged into the DXL.

Once connected to the 7800DXL check what IP address you get, once set to ' 'Obtain a IP address automatically, and Obtain a DNS Server automatically', also make sure the IP address of HH5 does not match the 7800DXL.
If the internet light is on, on the 7800DXL, make sure any connecting devices (connected to the 7800DXL) have a IP address in the range of 192.168.1.100~192.168.1.199, subnet 255.255.255.0, gateway - 192.168.1.254 (7800DXL's IP address) and DNS severs 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4

Re: Setting up 7800dxl with BT Infinity
Hi, tried all that - have checked and re-checked the obtain an IP address automatically box is checked along with DNS server automatically, no internet light on the DXL even though the DXL is configured to use an ethernet connection going through all the steps previously mentioned with HH5 ethernet connection connected to EWAN port on 7800DXL
Yes, both the DXL and HH have the same IP address even though they shouldn't have - no matter what i try i can't get these IP addresses to differ
Think i will have to soldier on using the HH5 - even though i wanted to 7800DXL connected to give better stability.
Thanks for your efforts and if you are able to do home visits that would be great

I would love to do home visits, life would be easierTrafford lad wrote:Hi, tried all that - have checked and re-checked the obtain an IP address automatically box is checked along with DNS server automatically, no internet light on the DXL even though the DXL is configured to use an ethernet connection going through all the steps previously mentioned with HH5 ethernet connection connected to EWAN port on 7800DXL

You can change the 7800DXL IP address by following these steps.
1. Login to the 7800DXL, and unplug your HH5 from the EWAN port
2. Click on 'Configuration >> LAN >> Ethernet'
3. Change the 'IP Address' to '192.168.2.254 once changed you will have to use this new address to access the device
4. Restart your computer so it gets a new IP lease from the 7800DXL
5. Plug in your HH5 to EWAN port
If you still have issues click on 'Status >> WAN' and let me know what is status of your 'eth0.1' connection

Thanks Billion fan
I don't doubt what your saying is right, its just tricky for me personally to set it up
I haven't lost any faith in the billion brand and have just ordered the 8800NL to replace the home hub 5 and my 8 months 7800DXL ( quality router
)
Reading the reviews the 8800NL appears to be just what i need, no hassle plug in and play - hopefully you will agree ?
Should be arriving in next few days so will report back with feedback all things being equal
Meanwhile for sale 8 months old quality 7800DXL if of interest anyone

The 8800NL should be a one box solutionTrafford lad wrote:Thanks Billion fan

I think you will be happy with the 8800NL.
If you can't sell the 7800DXL you can always use it a wireless hub switch, as the 8800NL only has one giga lan port, but then again this will be a 2 box solution, a extra option I guess

Re: Setting up 7800dxl with BT Infinity
Hi Billion Fan
Took my 7800DXL into the office today - after speaking to our IT guy he suggested it saying he will configure it with all i have to do is connect up to the HH and job done.
Questions - which lights should be lit up on the 7800DXL after connection to the HH ?
Also on wireless networks am i supposed to be able to connect to the billion wirelessly if i wish and access the internet wirelessly ?

The EWAN light and Internet light should be lit on the 7800DXL, connect everything through the Billion (eg wireless/LAN)Trafford lad wrote:Hi Billion Fan
