I had allocated devices outside of the DHCP pool. I had an iPod connected to my network, and when connecting a laptop the iPod dropped out, reconnected iPod, then laptop dropped out. Unit has since died again overnight, so waiting a replacement from Amazon, hope I was just unlucky!! Old BT2700HGV now back in service, and has been working ok all day.

This sounds exciting - new firmware appeals to my inner geek. Then again my current 7800N 1.06d is ROCK solid.

Is there a changelog / list of new features in this firmware anywhere or anyone who's installed it care to post the new features?

The Australian website has the following release note for the 7800N firmware 1.06f.dc1.
http://au.billion.com/product/wireless/ ... c7800n.php
I assume that the UK version of the firmware for the 7800N has a similar set of changes but there may be differences.
Pete

The change since 1.06e are –
1 Allow LAN user to use WAN IP to access the service provided by UPnP.
2 Fix issue whereby SNMP doesn't show correct statistics.
3 Fix issue whereby GRE can’t be built up because of inappropriate netmask settings.
4 Eliminate the IPv6 GW field input if the protocol is MPoA,
5 Fix IPv6 ND Proxy issue.
6 Simplify the PPTP Username field checking.
7 Support more protocol selections on the port mapping page.
8 Fix issue whereby 3G usage might cause 3G call to fail.
9 Enhancements to IPsec
10 Fix virtual server issue whereby more than 2 rules can't be added using IE browser.

Morning all.

Is there any way to restore my router setup after upgrading ? I have 1.06d at present and note that the firmware download page says:
You must reset back to factory default settings after the firmware upgrade, this is to ensure all changes within the firmware are implemeneted correctly.
Do not restore settings from previous firmware builds
Does this mean I have to write down all the settings by hand and then restore by hand ?

If so, I seriously wonder if it is worth the effort?

Yes, a factory reset means just that and you will have to re-enter your broadband details for your ISP, any static IPs you may assigned to printers etc and any password change, as you would have done when first "out of the box".

Just applied this firmware update as a last ditch attempt to resolve instability issues (rebooting, hanging requiring power reset) on 7800N using 1.06d. Seems to have resolved the issues as its now been stable for over 6 days. Previously it would hang/reboot within 2 hours of a powering on, sometimes in as little as 30s.

Had assumed a hardware fault as issues suddenly appeared after 2 months of stable running. My exchange is currently being upgraded for FTTC and now believe the older firmware had a problem with the changes at the exchange.

If you are having random reboots/hangs (not just dropping lines) then its well worth trying this update. Needs manual reentry of all settings (not impressive Billion) but worth doing if you are having these issues.

I can't see why it's really necessary to have to re-enter all the previous config info - the config settings is just a text file containing the config settings for the router - it's not as though the firmware will be altered by loading a config previously saved from a different f/w version, is it?

I've just updated my firmware and restored the config settings with no issues so far.

One question I do have though (and I should probably start a new thread for this): if you edit a config file to include only the items you've changed - like ADSL connection settings, static IP details, port forwarding, firewell rules etc, can you then load that config file so that only the settings contained within that file are changed in the router config?

What you would do after changing the settings in the router is to back up that config and it will be saved as config.(1) if you have previously backed up the original config and that will be incremented each time you back up the config. You just have to remember which is which if you have a few and want to go back into the middle of them :)
