I've reset it to start with - paperclip meets left hand side hole.

Just be careful trying to connect the new router etc as your line may think there is an issue with your router (or line) and instigate DLM which could affect your speeds.

I'd give it one final go tonight and then hold off until you give technical support a buzz on Tuesday.

Success, I think. I changed the network cable from the one supplied with the 8800axl to my original cable and entered 192.168.1.254 and up came the config screen. Entered the default userid/password and then quick start and just popped in my zen username and password. Everything else checked out.

So, my first post with my new 8800axl.

Thanks for your enthusiasm!

Upstream and downstream line rates from the main status page are a bit lower than previous (16004, 1152), but I was dreading something a lot more drastic.

Nice to see some stats in detail and must now learn what they mean...

Awesome!

If DLM is active then it'll take a while for your line to settle. However I've been reading about g.inp (http://www.increasebroadbandspeed.co.uk/g.inp).

I'd give technical support a buzz anyhow, maybe, who could make sure all your settings are ok.

But someone from the team may reply anyhow.

Agreed, the router is awesome and highly configurable.

Fibre looks like it is being installed in the shropshire village I live in, but who knows when it will be ready. One of the attractions of the 8800axl is to be suitable for fibre when it comes, but just giving a more stable connection on adsl2+ will do very nicely for now, hopefully.

Ah! I thought you were on FTTC, but I'd definitely recommend upgrading when you can.

I'm pretty lucky as I live about 100m from the fibre green cabinet and get speeds pretty much 80/20 compared with when I was using the BT homehub and was getting around 70/18ish.

Moved everything off the old router to the 8800axl this morning, remembering that I have to switch everything off and restart in sequence. Everything settled down very quickly and I was able to setup wireless at 2.4 and 5 and attach the only ac/5 Ghz device I have, an apple macbook air.

Last week I installed a new switch, the netgear gs108 so that I could try out gigabit connections, which was successful, so with the 8800axl now installed, I finally have a gigabit network, only limited by devices that don't support it.

So just looking at the adsl2+ stats and learning about statistics and error reporting to keep an eye on what's going on. My snr margin is set at 6dB because on the old netgear dgn1000 the problem was stability, so I am looking forward to trying out the snr reduction facilities - no rush.

I've found a list of devices now attached at Status-DHCP and I'm looking through the config pages and doc looking for where I can reserve lan addresses and name the devices...

Since getting it to work, I have been very pleased with the 8800axl, and getting used to the interface and where everything is, and how much I don't yet understand...

I'm going to be patient though, because I need at least a week to see if there is a basic improvement in internet connection reliability. With the old router, the internet would seize up, but no lights would change to indicate a problem, no logs, nothing, so just a switch the router off and on, and sometimes make a call to zen support. So if I get a week without having to power cycle the new router I will be chuffed, or at least if there is a problem, I'm hoping for some better statistics and reporting to let me know what is going on.

My speed went up since I used this router - I totally don't understand the various pages etc but am just pleased that it works better than my old plusnet one.
