EWAN Throughput maxes out at 34Mbps? (or just with QoS?)

Well after all the throughput testing & re-testing documented in this thread what happens? BT have gone and upped their FTTP speed from 100/15 to 160/20
Which sort of means I think that (sadly) my 7800n will be on ebay soon as I look for a router with a gigabit WAN port

Billion are launching 2 new models in the New Year that will support in excess of 330 Mbps on the EWAN side, specifically for the new FTTP roll out.beegee wrote:Well after all the throughput testing & re-testing documented in this thread what happens? ...presumably with WAN to LAN throughput to match??billion_fan wrote: Billion are launching 2 new models in the New Year that will support in excess of 330 Mbps on the EWAN side, specifically for the new FTTP roll out.

Re: EWAN Throughput maxes out at 34Mbps? (or just with QoS?)
Am I wasting my time using a Billion 7800N with Sky fibre then as I have an 80mb service and I live in the same road as the exchange and cabinet.
Am I not getting the full 80mb (or as near as possible) using a Billion router?
Should I go back to the Sky router to ensure I get the maximum speed possible?

With a maximum 80Mbps down service you will be OK with the 7800n.
The problem I have is that I will soon be getting FTTP (ie fibre all the way into the house). Initially BT's FTTP service was a 100Mbps download, which would max out the 7800n's WAN capability. This thread showed that if you turn off QOS throughput would be just about acceptable. However BT has now upped its basic FTTP service to 160Mbps, which puts it firmly out of the 7800n's capability on the WAN side.
To reassure yourself you could run some download tests with both routers and compare...
