Google DNS servers

Post by PDilly »

I attach two screenshots:
Summary page shows Google servers but WAN status page shows two 78.xxx servers. I'm pretty sure that these are Talktalk's
I'm confused, which am I running on?

You are using the google DNS severs, the Status >> WAN page just shows what DNS servers the ISP passing over/offering (you don't need to use them obviously)

Whats the advantage of using the google DNS servers? Surely they are further away which would slow address resolution? or am I missing something?

In general, they are faster and offer better security
Certainly quicker than Talktalk!

Some ISP DNS servers get clogged down and become slow or unresponsive, so it good to have a option to be able to change DNS sevrers
