8800NL reboots everyday to 1st Jan 00:00

Hi,

Purchased a Billion 8800NL about two weeks ago to replace a Home Hub 5 for BT VDSL. Pretty pleased with the added features but I cannot seem to get a solid connection and the device seems to reset around once a day. The logs always seem to revert to the 1st of Jan 00:00 and don't seem to provide any information about the event that seems to cause a reboot (I'm not sure that It is actually rebooting). Is it normal for this to happen? I've included a copy of the logs, the summary and the statistics for my line. If I have missed anything that would help please do ask. I have been hoping for my interleaving to be reduced and potentially for my speed to increase but I can't see that happening while the router is unable to keep connection consistently.

Any help much appreciated!

On your system log I noticed a UPNP crash.

Please try the following

1. Login to the router
2. Click on 'Advanced Setup >> UPNP'
3. Disable the UPNP function and click on 'Apply'
4. Monitor the router over the next 2 days and see if it reboots

Thanks for the quick response.

I have done this and see if it fixes the issue over the next few days. If it is due to UPNP then is the most likely cause something on my network using UPNP incorrectly or is there any history of this issue with the router itself? Obviously I would prefer UPNP to be enabled... I guess I'm jumping ahead of myself a little.

Thanks again.

Lets wait and see if the issue is related the UPNP service, I haven't seen a UPNP crash on the newer 2.52.d1 firmware yet, (but normally this kind of crash is related to the router)

If turning off UPNP does not resolve the issue, you might need to setup a sys log server on a windows based machine to capture the logs before the device reboots, so we can get a indication of what the issue might be

Ok makes sense.

What is interesting is I actually have another 8800NL that I set up in France on ADSL2+ last week which has had a similar issue with seemingly rebooting. If the log starts with jan 1 00:00 is that definitive evidence that the router rebooted? Some parts of the setup are entirely different (ADSL vs VDSL) but its the same firmware, has very similar devices running on its network and updates a dynamic DNS.

Don't want to confuse the thread but as it seems to have the same issue I've added some information from this 2nd router below.

It looks like we will need to perform the syslog capture, attached is guide on how to do so on a windows PC. (you must leave the sys log server open and running on PC to capture the logs locally)

A accurate way to tell if the router is rebooting is to check the 'System Up Time' on the status page of the router

Once you have captured the reboot, please send us a copy of your system log on the following email address support@billion.uk.com or submit a ticket on the following link http://www.billion.uk.com/esupport/inde ... ets/Submit

It has just rebooted with UPNP turned off so doesn't appear to be the cause.

I don't have a windows machine at hand and although I could go through the hassle of sorting this out I'd prefer a quicker fix if possible.

I've tried to downgrade the firmware (in the hope that might help) to the one mentioned on this forum a few times (2.32d dh65) but I get the following error:

Image uploading failed. The selected file contains an illegal image.

Is that firmware suitable for the 8800nl R2 or am I getting the wrong one? I got it from the forum here a few posts down.

Here are the latest logs:

Try using the firmware on the attached link

http://www.billion.uk.com/esupport/inde ... on-250ad13

2.32d.dh65 is for the 8800NL not the 8800NL R2
