wifi disconnecting

Post by grumpyoldman »

I am experiencing problems with wifi disconnecting on laptop and phone. The laptop and android phone have been connected to router using 5g, another android phone using 2.4g connection is not losing the wifi connection. I have changed both laptop and phone to connect using 2.4g and disconnections have ceased. It would appear that the problem is with the router.

When phone has disconnected it has normally reconnected a while after phone is taken out of sleep mode. On laptop sometimes reconnecting by using windows settings resolves the problem, other times router has been rebooted and on one occasion laptop had to be rebooted.

I had been using the 5g connection as this is faster (?) than 2.4g and has a stronger signal.

The laptop connects to wifi via Realtek wirless lan adpator plugged into USB port. Router is Billion 8800 AKL R2 3G/4G LTE VDSL/ADSL2.

Any suggestions as to what might be causing this problem.

Thank you

Can you try a firmware upgrade attached is latest firmware that has a newer wireless driver.

With this firmware it is advised to upgrade your device and reset your device back to factory default settings once upgraded, then manually reconfigure the device again.

It is not advised to restore settings from previous firmware builds.

I'm having the same problem. If I am in the same room as the router wifi signal is fine, if I go out of the room the signal strength is weak at best and the drops out. I am running the latest firmware from the website 2.52.d11.

Do you have any setting ideas to boost the wifi as currently the sky router we have has better signal strength.

Try loading the firmware above, if it doesn't help it might be a limitation on the hardware of the device.
