VPN PPTP config Error MPPE required but peer refused
Posted: Sun Dec 04, 2011 11:02 pm
Hi,
I am using a Mac and a 7800n billion router to set up PPTP using a IP address in the US (i have tried several from hide my *) from the VPN list my username and password added. I am getting a problem reported from the billion router LCP terminated by peer (MPPE required but peer refused) it it returned back from the VPN servers IP address.
Can any one shed some light onto the possible reason that this is occurring? I am also using an apple extreme wifi rather than the wifi from the Billion router.
I'm not sure if this is correct but have tried this to add this further option in along with the PPTP see below.. I have the option of L2TP under a list of Virtual servers on the router (see below). I think that you can use the Type or select drop down option from the below table to see the options i have. I tried to add it using the set peramters for the protocol (TCP), external port 1701 - 1701 the IP address was an option of 2 there rest self filled out. Internal port is also 1701 time schedule always on.
Port Mapping
Parameters
Application << (type or select from listbox)
Protocol External Port ~
Internal IP Address << (type or select from listbox)
Internal Port Time Schedule
Port ranges forwarded internally will be the same as Externally.
PPTP
Parameters
PPTP Function Enable Disable
WAN Port
Auth. Type
Encryption Key Length
Peer Encryption Mode
IP Addresses Assigned to Peer start from : 192.168.1.
Idle Timeout min(s)
The above IP number 200 was used outside the DHCP range listed from the router which is currently at 100-199. PPTP is enabled wan is default, encrypt length is auto, peer encrypt mode is only stateless other options is allow stateless and stateful and timeout is 0.
PPTP Account
Parameters
Name Tunnel Enable Disable
Username Password
Connection Type Remote Access LAN to LAN
Peer Network IP Peer Netmask
In the fields above from I am using name, vpn_1 username /password given by hide my *, enabled connection type remote and nothing more added to the other options fields.
PPTP Client
Parameters
Name WAN Port
Username Password
Auth. Type PPTP Server Address
Connection Type Remote Access LAN to LAN Time to Connect Always Manual
Peer Network IP Peer Netmask
The above uses the password from the hide my * VPN Ctrl panel PPTP option. The options added were the name dial_out1 wan port default, auth type pap of chap, PPTP is one from the PPTP lists from the control panel, connection type is remote access, time to connect always, Peer network IP and Peer Netmask empty.
