Can't get WDS working

Hi

I've had no luck getting two 7800N set up for WDS. Would anyone be able to tell me what I'm doing wrong?

Router Alice: 7800N connected to ADSL
Router Bob: 7800N to use as access point.

Alice:
  • Enable WDS
  • Set Peer WDS MAC address to be Bob's MAC
  • Set Wireless Channel to a fixed number rather than auto
Bob:
  • Factory reset
  • Change IP Address to 192.168.1.253
  • Set the wireless settings, including security identical to Alice
  • Enable WDS
  • Set Peer WDS MAC address to be Alice's MAC
  • Set DHCP Server Mode to Disable
I've also tried setting Bob's
  • Set DHCP Server Mode to Relay and specifying Alice's IP
  • WPA instead of WPA2 security
I'm tearing my hair out & don't know what else to try!

Thanks for any help !
Brian

Did you try and enter your wireless security key in the 'AES Key' section under WDS.

The thing to make sure you have set are

1. Make sure both have different IP addresses.
2. Make sure the wireless channel, security type and password match
3. Make sure the DHCP server is disabled on the 7800N that you intend to use as a repeater
4. Make sure the 'AP MAC Address' MAC address is entered in each others 7800N, eg 7800n1 AP MAC Address entered into 7800N2, and 7800N2 AP MAC Address is entered into 7800N1.
5. Enter the 'AES Key' in the WDS section

Check

Check

4. Make sure the 'AP MAC Address' MAC address is entered in each others 7800N, eg 7800n1 AP MAC Address entered into 7800N2, and 7800N2 AP MAC Address is entered into 7800N1.
Check
5. Enter the 'AES Key' in the WDS section
Check, tried setting a value in there, same on both routers. No joy.

Next step will be trying both devices without security, once step connect a computer to 7800N2 and try and ping the IP address of 7800n1.
