7800N Intermittent Connection Issues

Hi All,

After spending a while on Google (and this forum) looking for possible answers to my connection issues I thought, due to increasing family pressure to get the internet working, it best to post on this forum to see if anyone can assist. I have a Bipac 7800N (replacement for an old Netgear DGN2000) which seems to be dropping the wi fi on certain mobile items, laptops work fine but Iphones, Ipads, Blackberry's and Ipods frequently report no internet connection but will eventually connect after a period of time. However if these devices, once connected, are not used for a period (say a few hours or over night) they again take a while to re-connect and the whole process starts again. I have reviewed the wi fi settings on the 7800N as suggested in some of the forum posts (channel selection, b+g+n, lease times, etc.) however it has not made any difference.

The 7800N is connected to the master socket by an ADSL nation faceplate and is currently running firmware version 1.06g. I have left the settings as standard, the security is via WPA/WPA2 and all mobile devices in question are shown in the DHCP table.

If anyone can shine some light or give some pointers it would be most appreciated.

Simon.

Things to try

1. Update to the latest firmware
2. Try changing the channel the router outputs on
3. Try changing the 'Channel Width' to 20mhz
4. Make sure 'WMM and Wireless Multicast Forwarding' is disabled

Hi billion_fan,

Thanks for the quick response, I tried items 2, 3 and 4 before posting on the forum and it made no difference. I have updated the firmware today to 1.06h and will see how it goes but failing that I am at a loss to what the problem can be. It is as if any mobile wireless device (excluding laptops) is waiting for permission from the 7800N before being allowed internet access, hence I do not think there is a major issue with the wireless than a setting problem. Since this problem has arisen I have managed to repair the defective capacitors in the original Netgear DGN2000 which is now working fine, if the 7800N wireless issues cannot be remedied I am seriously considering sending the 7800N back which will be a shame considering it was originally purchased on very positive customer reviews.

Again any thoughts would be welcome.

Simon.

Have your tried to use the 'Fixed Host' option to assign static IPs to the devices in question?

Hi billion_fan,

Many thanks for the reply but I have decided to return the 7800N as I have managed to repair the Netgear. I appreciate the Netgear is not a good but it is a lot easier to setup and all mobile devices are working okay.

Regards,

Simon.
