Problems using the 7800N with Wireless Extender

I am trying to use a wireless range extender as a client device to connect an Xbox 360 but the connection between the 7800N and the extender isn't very good. The connection speed fluctuates and frequently drops altogether, I have tried various extenders and got the same result with all of them so it appears to be more to do with the 7800N.
The Wifi strength of the Xbox location is generally quite good and when I try a newer Xbox with built in Wifi the connection is solid, can anyone offer any advice regarding any settings etc on the 7800N to improve this?
Thanks.

You can try and set the channel width to 20mhz or even try and change the channel to see if any improvement is made

Great, thanks.
Does the 7800N normally work well with a range extender etc?

Not tested with other brands, but works well with the Bipac 3100SN.

Appreciate your help, is it also recommended to make the device I am trying to connect a fixed IP address rather than by DHCP?

Yes you can try that, but this should not effect the wireless signal.

I'm having a similar problem - I had a Wireless G extender (Buffalo) and "upgraded" to a Wireless N (Netgear), now my devices connected to the extender cannot access the internet and media playback is stuttering. I have spent hours trying to configure the extender and router, it seems that changing the security to WPA2 has slightly improved the streaming across the network but the internet connection is still blocked through the extender.
I haven't configured the Router's firewall, the extender has a full wireless signal and devices connected to the router (cable and WiFi) have full access to the internet and LAN so I can only assume that the router is blocking the extender somehow.

Try changing the channel width to 20mhz, I assume the extender is not connecting the router, are you able to ping the extenders IP address from a connection on the router??

I changed the channel width and it won't connect at all so put it back to 20/40
The extender is connecting to the router, it has a full signal (Apparently), and devices connected to the extender can access files on the server (connected to router). The problem seems to be that the devices are unable to get internet access. I can access the extender's web-based control panel through my PC's LAN connection (into the router) which also assumes that they are connected.
I'm still open to the possibility that the extender is the problem, it just seems weird that I can stream media files but not access the internet. I have discovered that my Samsung TV has an in-built WiFi receiver so I have disconnected it from the extender and it works flawlessly.

might be a DNS issue or gateway issue
