Wireless issues

Hi all,
Recently upgraded my DG834gt to the 7800n. I live in a long narrow single floor flat with the router/pc at one end of the house and the laptop and iPad at the other end. The distance is about 20-30 ft with 3 intervening brick walls. I'm using the latest firmware and router setup was ridiculously easy.
The problem now is that while I have excellent Internet connectivity on the wired pc and the iPad via wireless, the laptop has been having serious issues. While the laptop and iPad are both in the same room, the iPad has absolutely no problem with connecting and staying connected to the Internet, however the laptop will only remain connected for a shirt period of time. A lot of the time the laptop shows a signal strength of 5 bars but won't allow access to the Nernst, or if it does it's either very fast or at a snail's pace.
Thoughts. Ideas?
John
