WDS Between 7800N and 7800N

Hi,

I've recently moved into a new place with a flatmate who has the same 7800N ADSL router as me.

We have the Primary router in the living room, wired to a desktop PC, networked printer and a NAS device.

I was hoping to link the two routers together and WDS seems like my best option. I found the instructions in the support area that briefly show the steps necessary to connect a 7300 and 7800.

In another room, I want to connect an Internet TV, PS3 and a NAS device to the secondary router.

I couldn't get this to work, the secondary router with DHCP enabled wouldn't broadcast the SSID and the primary had DHCP disabled preventing the allocation of addresses to wireless devices (Smartphone).
Both routers needed many resets during configuration to allow cabled connections to work.
Both devices are running the 1.06e firmware.
I added the opposite peer MAC addresses in the WDS fields and reset both routers.

1) Is there a guide available for connecting the two identical routers?

2) Is there a simple way of testing that the two devices are connecting to each other using WDS? (Logs etc.)

3) Would I be able to connect wired devices to both routers once they are communicating and still share the internet location?

4) Is it necessary to add the encryption details in the WDS fields?

Any help greatly appreciated!

Pete

Ok abit of the long one, but here goes.

78001 will refer to the 7800N that has a ADSL cable plugged up
78002 will refer to the 7800N that you intend to use as wireless extension.

1. Login to the 78002 and make sure you change the default LAN IP.
2. Turn off the DHCP server on the 78002, as 78001 will be assigning IP's.
3. Make sure the wireless channel matchs in on both devices.
4. Make sure wireless security type and password match.
5. Enter the MAC of 78001 into the WDS section of the 78002.
6. Enter the MAC of 78002 into the WDS section of the 78001.
7. If you have WPA wireless secuirty set on 78001 please make sure you enter that password in the WDS section on both units.
8. Try and connect to 78002 and see if you can aquire a IP address from 78001, if you have internet access then WDS is working.

Here are some answers to your questions.

1.There is no offical guide, but I think there is more information found on CD manual.
2. No simple way, other then having both devices in the same room, for the setup
3. Yes you can connect wired/wireless devices to both
4. Yes to make sure the WDS link between both devices are secured.

I hope this helps.
