Apply, Save Config, Restart: which to use?

When reconfiguring a 7800, precisely which final operations should be done in the router's user interface? Is it essential to always press Save Configuration, for example? And should a Restart be then also performed?

I've recently done some reconfiguring of my 7800, pressing the appropriate Apply buttons where needed. My guess was that this would, by itself, write the new setting to flash. So, should one also then press Save Configuration when finished making the changes, and maybe also press Restart?

I vaguely recall, when I first got the router, a suggestion that one should always save with the router's default settings when reconfiguring it, rather than the current new settings, the idea being that you'd then re-input all the router's settings manually. But on reflection that doesn't seem to make much sense.

I'd have thought that just pressing the individual Apply buttons and then finally pressing Save Configuration would be sufficient. Please tell me if I'm right or wrong.

Thats right, apply all the settings, make sure they are applied, then finally when you are happy, click on 'Save Config' and 'Apply' again to confirm you wish to save the config to flash mem. (there is no need to reboot/restart the device, the only time you have save the config and restart is if you make any WAN changes)

Many thanks, billion_fan. I'm now going to keep a special note about it, in case I need to make changes again at a later date.
