Extend 7800 WiFi

Hi All,

I am extremely happy with my 7800 router, but since my incoming fibre is in my loft where I have all my equipment, I would like to extend the WiFi to provide better coverage on the ground floor of my house.
I would like to keep the extended WiFi transparent, as-in as seamless a transition as possible from the router to the WiFi extension.
If this means buying another Billion product that's no problem but I would like for example to be able to move from upstairs to downstairs with an iPad for example and not need to worry about which WiFi I've joined.

Currently, since I don't use the Airport WiFi built into my iMac because its hardwired to my LAN, I reconfigure the Airport as a share to extend my WiFi facilities downstairs. This works, but because this facility in OS X creates a new NAT, this causes problems using facilities like AirPlay not seeing other devices that are connected to the Routers network. This would be solved if the WiFi's were effectively one and the same.

Would a BiPAC 3100SN be suitable to achieve a solution?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Dave.

I would suggest the homeplug start kit. Model - P106N

http://www.billion.uk.com/product/powerline/P106n.htm

This will extend your wireless network, using your electrical circuit to transfer data.

Once unit plugs to your router, the other plugs up in a location where you need to extend your wireless network.

Thanks for the speedy reply, but being the impatient type, I went ahead and ordered the 3100SN :)

Looking through the features, it looks like it will do the job right?
I figured I could configure WDS between the my 7800N and the 3100SN, presumably similar to:

yes you can use WDS, or you can use AP Client mode, much easier to configure.

Just select the SSID and at the bottom your SSID will be selected, then enter your wireless password and click on 'Apply'

Then try and connect to SSID set on the 3011SN and you should get a IP address from the 7800N.

I hope this helps.

Ok, its arrived, but I'm not sure which is the best route to go.

Your latter option certainly does sound the easiest to configure, but will that give me a transparent (single) WiFi?
I'm seeing the default 3100SN WiFi downstairs which would involve switching between that and the SSID of the 7800N when upstairs (which is what I had before).

edit....

Ok, I think I've got it working, I changed the SSID (in basic configuration) to match my SSID on the 7800N.
I set the same security settings on the 3100N to match the 7800N.
I configured the AP client to use the same SSID WiFi from the 7800N.
It didn't seem to be working quite right at this point, so I enabled WDS using "Lazy Mode" and now I seem to have full strength signal downstairs using my original WiFi SSID and net access all seems to work.
Moving from downstairs to upstairs and watching the WiFi signal seems to switch from lowering to full again, so I'm pretty sure its moving between the 3100N and the 7800N ok :)
