QoS halves download speed (plusnet fibre)

Hi there

Recently purchased Plusnet fibre 80Mb, using it with the standard openreach router and the billion 7800n. It all worked fine, got about 74Mb/s download speed, but I'm also an avid League of Legends player, and there is an issue with LoL with the 7800n where you are required to set up a QoS rule for TCP/UDP ports 5000-5500 to avoid a firewall error message the game throws up.

All fine, the rule has been set up, but the issue is, when using the QoS rule, my results on www.speedtest.net are almost halved (30Mb/s). Is there any way to avoid this massive speed drop when using QoS?

Cheers

Can you do the same by setting up a port forwarding rule, instead?

cheers, martin

Normally a port forwarding rule is used for opening ports

Yes. So does this game need both port forwarding and QoS?

What is the QoS actually achieving in this case?

cheers, Martin

I'm not sure, I don't own this game so its hard to comment, normally port forwarding is needed for online gaming, but if UPNP is used, then this should be done automatically.

Check to see if the game still works after setting up the port forwarding without the QoS http://portforward.com/english/routers/ ... egends.htm
