I'm currently with Demon for ADSL through the copper (ADSL_2plus) and am thinking of switching to BT (to get the sport through Sky and the mobile wifi). Sadly fibre is not an option where I live.
I'd prefer to keep using my 7800DXL - can I assume it's just a case of nabbing the appropriate settings from BT and putting BT's home hub thing back in the box?
Also, as a possibly slightly off-topic deviation, BT (and Demon) seem to both get heavily criticised as isps. My Demon works OK.. so am I mad even thinking about it?
Thanks!
Use 7800DXL with BT ADSL?

Your 7800DXL will be fine with BT.

Re: Use 7800DXL with BT ADSL?
Great - I can retain my Billion!
I'd welcome any thoughts about the sanity of going to BT ADSL+ (from Demon). Most review sites seem very negative but I saw a recent OFCOM survey which implied they were no worse than any of the others and in some areas a little better. Is the noise on the isp review site the vocal minority?
Thanks!

I was on BT Infinity Fibre for 18 months, no issues and found it very reliable.
Only changed when the company I work for asked me to get a business fibre account.
BT were quite expensive for that.

Re: Use 7800DXL with BT ADSL?
I use it on BT "up to 8mb" ....they (BT) assured and continue to assure me that their vision service will not work with a non BT router - but it does ! ......they later assured me that I could only use a BT homehub with the Youview service but again the Billion works just fine
On my long (6.4Km) line with 58dB attenuation and around 6dB SNR I get between 2.5 and 3.1meg whereas the BT routers only managed between 1.6 and 2.2meg (variance with SNR changes)
I CAN get 3.3meg with the SNR reduced to 1dB but not surprisingly it isn't very reliable...it does hang on to sync incredibly well even at 1dB but the download speeds drop, presumably due to re-sending of corrupted packets.
Have found a tweaked 4 to 6dB SNR works well

Thanks David - your situation would be the same as mine in terms of speeds and connection type. I'm glad I can continue to use the Billion (and not surprised it's better than the BT router!).davidwf wrote:I use it on BT "up to 8mb" ....
I am still paralysed by inertia on this. Demon ain't great but at the same time it ain't broken! I just fancy the football and mobile wifi!
