Security

Post by Sunbuff »

I purchased the Billion 7800DXL to replace my TalkTalk Huawei 532. I am an old man and found the setup procedure a bit difficult to follow.
I eventually got the router up and running and it has given me 3Mbps extra speed. My problem is that when I check ''Status'', security is marked as ''None''. I have spent hours going over the settings, but I have failed to see where I have gone wrong.
I would appreciate any help you can give me.

The firewall (security) can be found under 'Configuration >> WAN >> WAN Service' click on the edit button for you ADSL connection and check to see if the 'Firewall' box is ticked, if it is ticked you are secure.

The section you are referring to 'Configuration >> Security' has two sections, incoming to allow connections (you can use the virtual server section there is no need to enter anything here) or outgoing where you can drop packets or allow certain IP addresses to have access to certain ports)

Hi there Billion Fan...Thank you for your prompt reply to my enquiry. My original message lacked some important info eg. I should have mentioned the fact that I am on TalkTalk's ''Medium Fibre'' service. I have checked out your recommendations and as far as I can see, all firewall
entries are set to ''enable''. The ''guest'' entry is where security is marked as ''None'', perhaps you can't have security with this setting? if that is the case please accept my apologies for wasting your time.
Best regards,

If you mean the guest wifi network, as shown on the attached screen shot, you only need to enable wireless security if the guest network is enabled.
You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.

Sorry for my late reply, I have been ill. For some unknown reason I no longer can access http://192.168.1.254 it keeps coming up with the message ''This page cannot be displayed''. The Windows ''Fix it'' page is unable to identify the problem so I am stuck, maybe you can help?.

Did you enable the 'LAN Side Firewall'??

Have you tried to restart the device?? To see if you can access the device again on http://192.168.1.254

If you enabled the 'LAN Side Firewall' you will need to reset the device using the reset pin hole and manually reconfigure the device again, the LAN side firewall should only be used once a lan group isolation is setup.

Regarding The ''guest'' entry is where security is marked as ''None' can you send me a screen capture of this page

Hello again!...I bit the bullet and pressed the reset button. Starting at the beginning, I followed the procedure right to the end and low and behold everything now appears to be working OK. Your help with this has been appreciated very much in particular, the patience you have demonstrated in dealing with a stupid old codger like me, it can't have been easy!
Kindest Regards,
