7800DXL VPN option "missing"

Hi, I've got a 7800DXL, I can't find any option to configure VPN related stuff. The manual has one entry for VPN which talks about IPv4<->IPv6 stuff, nothing vaguely pptp related.

Any ideas?

Thanks
Ian

Hi

The DXL version, the L standing for "Lite" does not have VPN end points, they've taken it out of the firmware. You need to buy the more expensive DX version for VPN to be included.

Phil

Ugh, you know I had to guess which was the right model because the Web site is so poor. Didn't occur to me billion had become"that" sort of company, I'll return the crippled box and get something else.
Thank you for responding.
Ian

I would not worry too much, the VPN server in the 7800N was pants... If you have a server or computer that is always on, you would be better off forwarding the VPN service to that.

I don't think they ever fixed the 7800N VPN, which is a shame.

I had a 7800(somethingorother) years ago which I loved before it blew up, which was part of the reason to get this one (which has now also blown up). I'm doing exactly what you suggest and port forwarding to a windows box and using a remote connection to that which is working ok.

The thing that annoys me is that I did look. The web site is very confusing, especially if you're trying to compare models. It's made more complicated in that sometimes you end up on the international site which has entirely different models. I'm guessing it was designed by people who already understand the models which isn't always the best idea. Hoodellyhum.

If you have any questions regarding any of our models, post a question on in the 'Discussions Section' viewforum.php?f=3
