New to the forum. Just got a Billion BiPac 8800NL and I've been putting it through its paces for my needs. One problem I'm experiencing, I think it's a problem anyway, is that I have a PS4 in the DMZ of the 8800NL which gives me open NAT for multiplayer gaming. With uPnP enabled so that my son can use his PS3 forces my PS4 NAT to moderate. I expect this to happen if the PS3 is using the same ports as that of the PS4 - if they are both used at the same time. However, if I turn the PS3 off shouldn't uPnP release these ports (previously used by the PS3) to be used by other devices (i.e. my PS4) on the network? I thought I'd solved the problem in that I found the 'virtual servers' router configuration page which lists the ports opened by uPnP per device. There is the option to delete the ports listed in 'virtual servers' but the ports don't seem to be released for my PS4 (in the DMZ) even though the virtual server list is now empty. The PS4 NAT is still moderate and only power cycling the router will return it to open NAT. I don't want to power cycle my router as it will reduce the VDSL sync speed if I'm not careful. And just to clarify my requirements - I'd prefer to use DMZ for my PS4 as uPnP doesn't seem to work for all multiplayer games properly - only DMZ does. And I don't want to forward ports as it can be a pain doing it for each and every game.
Has anyone got any ideas how I can resolve this or have I found a problem with the router which might need fixing in a firmware update (i.e. uPnP doesn't release ports after a device is turned off) ????
Thanks for any help or insight.
Ports used by uPnP on the 8800NL aren't released?

And one other thing I've noticed is that sometimes when devices are powered down they remain in the virtual server list but other devices disappear automatically from the list when they are powered down. This can't be right, can it? All devices that are switched off should really automatically disappear from the list freeing up ports immediately. All devices were listed as upnp in the list when powered on. Thanks.

Hi,
What results do you get if you don't use DMZ and no manual virtual server and just leaving UPnP to handle everything?

Hi. Thanks for the reply. I will post back later and let you know. I'm at work at the mo.
Other aspects of my setup that might help. I have assigned the PS4 (which is in the DMZ) a static IP address outside of the range of the DHCP - the DHCP I left at default factory settings which I think is 100->199. My PS4 has an IP address of 201 which I manually assigned. This morning both my PS4 and PS Vita (powered off completely) remained in the 'Virtual Servers' list of devices - I think it listed the PS4 as using the uPnP in this list as well, which I thought it wouldn't do if it was the DMZ device.
One other thing I've noticed too - just in case it helps - is that the PS4 with a static IP address of 201 is listed on the DHCP Status page with a lease time. I wasn't expect to see it listed.
Anyway, I will get back to you later on the question you asked but just thought the above additional info might help shed some light. Thanks.

Also try settings all devices PS3/PS4 to use the DHCP server, and UPNP enabled on both devices, and let us know the resultsMrChips wrote:Hi. Thanks for the reply. I will post back later and let you know. I'm at work at the mo.

Re: Ports used by uPnP on the 8800NL aren't released?
Ok. So I've deleted the static ip for the ps4, cleared the 'virtual server' list, upnp is enabled, my ps4 has an ip address assigned by the Dhcp and it's still the same. Upnp ports appear in the virtual server list and when I completely power down devices such as the ps4 etc the upnp ports are not removed automatically from the virtual server list. And the nat of the ps4 with upnp was moderate. It appears upnp isn't releasing ports after network devices are powered down.

I will hold discussions with our engineers, and see how we can proceedMrChips wrote:Ok. Can you remember which ports were opened via UPNP, we will need ports for both units PS3 and PS4.billion_fan wrote:I will hold discussions with our engineers, and see how we can proceedMrChips wrote:Ok. If I remember rightly the ports were different per device - I thought they overlapped or were the same in some way but they were different. I'll report back later with the actual ports. Thanks.

Re: Ports used by uPnP on the 8800NL aren't released?
So here are the ports listed in the virtual server list. The PS4 is IP address 108. PS3 is 103. PS Vita is 102. This is without DMZ used at all and only uPnP enabled.
Virtual Servers Setup
Server Name External Port Protocol Internal Port Server IP Address WAN Interface Disabled Remove Edit
Start End Start End
(UPnP) 192.168.1.108:9308 to 9308 (UDP) 9308 9308 UDP 9308 9308 192.168.1.108 ppp1.1
(UPnP) 192.168.1.102:10070 to 10070 (UDP) 10070 10070 UDP 10070 10070 192.168.1.102 ppp1.1
(UPnP) 192.168.1.102:9306 to 9306 (UDP) 9306 9306 UDP 9306 9306 192.168.1.102 ppp1.1
(UPnP) 192.168.1.103:3658 to 3658 (UDP) 3658 3658 UDP 3658 3658 192.168.1.103 ppp1.1
In the above list the PS Vita (102) isn't even powered on - it's completely powered down. Sometimes it's the other way around and the PS3 won't be powered on but its IP address will still be listed in the virtual server list.
And just to reiterate if the PS4 is in the DMZ, and the PS3 stays in the virtual server list (even when powered off), then the PS4 will have a moderate NAT - don't know why as the port lists are different anyway. What I want to achieve - is the PS4 in the DMZ, with open NAT when the PS3 (or anything else) powered off. I'll be happy then. Thanks.
