am a little embarresed to ask but anyway - is the firewall on the 7800N (latest firmware), active by default.
I apprecaite it has a firewall capability but is it ON as standard. I also appreciate NAT gives some level of security but it'd be recommended to run a firewall as well - that right?
If it isn't on, can someone explain clearly how to activate it as the screen is a little bit complicated.
Also - would it be normal for a router to chiop with a firewall active - e.g. the sorts of things you get from ISPs as standard or netgear etc off the shelf?
Thanks
BT.

The firewall is on by default, the only way to disable the firewall is to allow all incoming connections through the firewall (as shown on the attached link
http://billion-fae.blogspot.co.uk/2012/ ... ll-on.html this rule is for IPv6 but works the same way with IPv4)
I don't get what you mean by 'would it be normal for a router to chiop with a firewall active '

Tahnsk - now reassured. It's just on the firewall screen in the management console I was looking for an ON/OFF toggle and didn't see it so I was worried that it was OFF, good that it's on.
sorry chiop = ship typo. I guess that home routers have the firewall on by default.

Yep most devices have a firewall built in, and should be on as default
