How could I know the firewall is ON. On other modems you can click on a radio button but there is nothing like this here. is there any option to turn it on or off via telnet etc.

You can enable/disable the Firewall in the router but from the list of telnet cmds, there doesn't appear to be one for the Firewall (unless I've missed it)

The firewall is on as default, the firewall is set to allow all outgoing connections by default.

So is it the incoming you have to enable via Intrusion Detection ?

No, by default it allows all outgoing traffic and blocks all incoming attempts at access.

So what exactly am I enabling when I enable Intrusion Detection, even if I didn't check the Log box for the Firewall log to record ?

George if you go to the Billion Interface> Status > Firewall Log you can see there if events are being monitored and blocked.

The routers Intrusion Detection System (IDS) is used to detect hackers attack and intrusion attempts from the Internet.

If the IDS function of the firewall is enabled, inbound packets are filtered and blocked depending on whether they are detected as possible hacker attacks, intrusion attempts or other connection that the router determines to be suspicious.

If you need to allow inbound traffic, please use the Virtual Server >> Port Mapping to do so.

If you want to limit the external IP addresses that can access your incoming connection you can use the packet filtering rule to do so.
