8800NL Bridge Mode

I currently have an ASUS RT-AC68U router connected to BT OR ECI VDSL modem, so can't get any line stats. I purchased a 8800NL to use in bridge mode but had a few issues.
Setup I was using:
RT-AC68U - LAN port 1 connected to network switch; WAN port connected to LAN port 1 on the 8800NL
8800NL - LAN port 4 connected to network switch; DSL port to wall
Whilst in theory this all worked and the RT-AC68U connected via PPPOE as it did when connected to the ECI modem, I was getting packet loss to sites like bbc.co.uk. At the same time, in the system log on the RT-AC68U the following was being logged every couple of seconds:
kernel: br0: received packet on vlan1 with own address as source address
I removed the network connection on LAN port 4 on the 8800NL, the errors disappeared from the system log on the ASUS and no packet loss.
Am I missing something with the setup to be able to use the 8800NL in full bridge mode with fibre and be able to keep it connected to my network so I can view line stats?
Thanks

You created a loop within the network, hence when the 8800nl is disconnected from the switch the errors stopped,
The only way to access the 8800NL when in bridge mode is a direct connection the 8800NL (with a static IP address within the same subnet), it might be pain to do so, but it works
If you have two LAN ports it will work (one connected to the Asus and the other with static IP and no gateway to the 8800NL), or if you have a wireless connection and LAN connection it will work, eg LAN connected to Asus, wireless connected to the 8800NL with static IP, no gateway.
I hope this helps

Thanks. I thought that might be the case.
Back to the drawing board

Hi
I’ve got a similar question if someone could help me out I would appreciate it.
I’ve got an 8800NL in half bridge mode (DSL) linked up to an ASUS RT-N66U router (192.168.1.1).
Internet is working through the ASUS ok.
Currently I cannot log back into the 8800NL through the ASUS through the previous default IP of 192.168.1.254.
I looked into this a bit and various people state if I set the 8800NL as a static IP within the subnet of the ASUS (presumably before I set it in half bridge mode) I should be able to login to the 8800NL through the ASUS.
A question on this, should I also be turning off the DCHP server on the 8800NL as well to make this work?
I’ve also seen people state in the 8800NL I should set the IP of the ASUS as the gateway, but in the 8800NL I cannot even find an option to put in the IP of a gateway?
Cheers
Chris

This is quite a puzzle as I have exactly the same setup with 1 minor exception in that my LAN switch is connected to port 3 on the 8800NL (the colour Blue and label about dual WAN put me off using port 4).
So with my configuration I couldn't get the RT-AC68U to connect to VDSL via the modem until I found another post in the forum with a suggestion to set the WAN Bridged PTM service to VLAN 101 and Priority 0. This fixed me being able to get the PPPoE connection up.
I had to disable the ISP Special Requirements for DHCP & VPN settings on the RT-AC68U otherwise I was getting constant complaints about my WAN DHCP address expired on the Asus, and this was the only way DDNS would work. I think this is an Asus (or possibly Merlin Firmware) issue rather than anything to do with Billion.
I have connected the 8800NL to my LAN via port 3 and get no errors although I am running spanning tree on the ASUS which might prevent the issues. I can now access the 8800NL via the LAN and have DSLStats monitoring for me.
