Saving/restoring config files.

Probably a very silly question to ask, but, if I save the router's config file I get a file which looks like, for example, config_1.06b.conf. After doing a firmware upgrade I have always restarted the router with factory settings, but is it then acceptable to use this file to restore all the configuration data, even though the firmware version has changed?

Normally Billion advise you not to restore settings from previous firmware builds, as this may cause issues.
I had a issue myself, as I thought I would take the lazy route, of restoring a config file on a newer firmware. My wireless clients/devices would not connect anymore, so I had to reset and manually reconfigure everything, been working ever since.

So would nicsat2001 not get the same problems reverting to the 1.05 firmware, given that he is already experiencing connection probs

As far as I can see (after looking at the config file as a text doc) it mainly contains settings, not actual "operating system" data. You would have to reinstate these anyway after doing a fw upgrade and rebooting to factory settings, hence the reason I ask. Seems a bit of a faff entering all the criteria after an upgrade. Anyone from Admin/Tech care to comment??
