Routing and DHCP issues.

I have some routing issues with the 7800n I hope someone can assist with.
I have a laptop connected to the 7800n via wireless.
Server connected to the 7800n via a tp-link gigabit switch and then via a 200 Mbit homeplug pair.
The laptop can access a samba share on the server (Windows XP my documents on the laptop is mapped to this).
It worked fine until recently...
If the laptop is restarted then I must restart the server so that the laptop can see its documents. I have to leave the laptop on 24/7 unless I want to restart the server every time I start up the laptop.
I thought that this could be a samba bug whereby samba crashed on the server when the XP machine terminates the connection to the share. However I did some more investigation last night and it turns out that the problem seems to be the 7800n; I cannot ping the server from the laptop and I can't access any other service from on the server - the routing to the server is not working (and samba is still running). Both the server and laptop can both still get on the Internet fine.
I also have a DHCP issue whereby the 7800n won't issue IP addresses once the router has been on for 2-3 weeks. I have been restarting the router to get this working - it then works fine for a couple of weeks.
