Port forwarding has stopped working

Post by meditek »

Suddenly I find that none of the ports I forwarded under Port Mapping are not working any more. They worked fine till today. Everything else works fine. I am completely stuck. Help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Hi meditek

The devices you have port forwarded to, do they use a static internal IP??

This is a must, because if the devices are using DHCP, the IP address might change, which will make the virtual server rules void.

Thanks for replying. They are all fixed IP's. Mysteriously, after refusing to work all day yesterday Forwarding is working fine again today despite several switch off and reboots of both my comp and Router yesterday. Microchip behaviour can be very odd!

Now port forwarding has decided to fail again. Re-booting failed. Is there a bug here?

Things have become clearer :-

I have a Bipac 7800N (Firmware 106.e) which I am familiar with and a fixed IP address and firewalls are turned off for testing.

I have 6 IP Cameras all of which have been successfully port forwarded for remote access using Virtual Server/Port Mapping for over a year now. However one of them decided to stop working (camera 1) on the Wan but works fine using it's LAN IP e.g. 192.168.1.126:8010

I, therefore, changed it's IP to the same as one of the working cameras (Camera2 - 192.168.1.174:8035). I removed Camera2 from the Lan and was able to view Camera 1 on it's IP but not via the WAN. Port checker said 'Your port is not open or unreachable'.

The port is obviously not blocked by my ISP (Talktalk Business), nor any firewall nor did I fiddle with anything before it stopped working. Frankly, I am baffled. The more so since I just got a new camera (Vivotek FD8134V) that is exhibiting exactly the same behaviour. I have rebooted/turned off etc my router to no effect. I have a Homeplug Ethernet network.

EDIT :- PROBLEM SOLVED - packet loss via Homeplug Network

EDIT:- PROBLEM SOLVED - packet loss on Homeplug network

It would seem that the devices themselves are blocking the ports over the WAN. Though none of this explains why the problem appeared and disappeared overnight a couple of weeks ago.

This has been driving me nutty for the past few days. Any help would be appreciated.
