Restart needed after making change in SNR?

Post by gatekeeper »

I'm using an 8800NL (ADSL mode only) and I've recently had cause to adjust the target SNR of the connection to the exchange by using the 8800's built-in SNR facility. As a result I've got the target SNR to the value I now need (as read in the router's stats) but I couldn't remember whether there's a need to then restart the router following an SNR change of this kind. Is there? (In re-negotiating the very SNR itself, the 8800 performs what certainly looks like an auto-restart, so that's why I'm wondering if there's ever a need to then do a further restart).

Incidentally, and completely aside from the matter of SNR, what happens, on the 8800NL, if you power the device off? Does it conserve all the user's settings, including the SNR, so that when you switch it back on, all the user's own settings are still there?

I tweak my router so infrequently these days that I can never remember these little details when I then have to make a change of some kind.

Once you adjust the SNR, the router will drop your DSL connection and re-sync there is no need to restart your device

If you turn off you device, it will load your current setup meaning your SNR change will still be there

Many thanks for that, billion_fan. I'll now make a written note of that so that, next time, I'll know.
