I'm trying to set my 8800NL up in Bridge Mode on BT Infinity VDSL with my Asus RT-AC68U as primary router. I'm on firmware 2.32d dh65.

Try as I might I couldn't get the Asus to recognise the 8800NL in PPPOE mode until I found a post by billion fan recommending the following:

Also try resetting the 8800, once resetted, log in click on 'Configuration >> WAN >> WAN Service' edit the 'PTM PPPOE' interface, change the Type to 'Bridging' ensure the '802.1P Priority' is set to 0 and the '802.1Q VLAN ID' is set to 101, click on 'Apply'

This solved the problem, but I would like to understand what I just changed.

Additionally is there any way to configure the 8800NL admin interface as accessible from my internal LAN?

By making this change you turned the modem/router into a modem only.

You need a direct connection to the device within the same IP address eg 192.168.1.200, to access 192.168.1.254 (default Billion web gui)

It seems I put the bridged modem traffic into VLAN 101 on highest priority. I'm not sure why I needed to do this, but my big concern is that if I then connect the LAN side of my router to the billion modem I have the potential for the Router to see traffic from its WAN interface on its LAN and vice versa.

I'm generally familiar with networking, but not the Billion 8800NL, therefore I am guessing that VLAN 101 is the default LAN VLAN for all switch ports and I put the bridged traffic into the LAN with my change. Is there a way to logically separate the Bridge port and remaining LAN ports on the 8800NL so that I have isolated the traffic? or am I worrying needlessly?

You are worrying needlessly, the VLAN tag is only for the WAN (Needed for a BT,Plusnet, talktalk, sky etc on a FTTC connection)

As the device is configured for bridging mode, you should be fine with a static IP address set to your LAN, so you can access the router, (you don't need a gateway, as you are only using the internal web gui for management)
