Guys, I am thinking of replacing the sr102 as its frequently disconnecting now bizarrely at night and openreach have checked line etc and all seem fine. lots of people are getting this post recent firmware upgrade so suspect may be the router. its also not great with wifi so my question is does anyone have a recommendation as to which billion to buy and are there any issues with this substituted for the sr102 in terms of when it goes down and reconnects etc, as really looking for a trouble free existence as much as possible

I get and am ok with the password stuff,

interested in the one box solution which I believe is the 8800 series. does anyone have experience with this setup and can share their findings/views over the sr102 in use.

I'm using the 8800NL. This morning I set it up and it went mostly to plan. It only took a while for the first login, otherwise it's working fine -- but I'll keep an eye on it.

Firstly, you will need to extract your Sky username and password. And no, Sky won't give it to you.

Don't use any of the web-generator pages, they don't work for the SR102. I use Lubuntu (a Linux distribution) and I used two different methods to extract the password from the SR102, in order to verify I had the right password. The username is the MAC-address of the SR102.

I have the latest firmware (2.32e) on the router. The documentation provided by Billion is excellent and all you need to do is to put in your Sky username/password in the Sky 'format' -> username@skydsl|abc123gf

The SR102 is not good hardware and Sky should have made more effort in getting something of better quality. We had to replace it since it would stop giving out I.P. numbers. It was almost a daily routine, power cycling the SR102 after yet another crash.

Now life is much easier without the SR102 -- power cycling every day is a thing of the past.
