Static Route Set Up Failure

Hi,
I wonder if anyone has ever set up a static route on their 7800N successfully? I currently have a test subnet that can route out to the internet via my 7800N but I can't access/ping, etc it from my main subnet. (The test subnet hangs off one of my Ethernet ports to another router) I think this is due to the default gateway on my 7800N pointing to the ADSL port, I have tried adding a static route into the router to point any traffic for the test subnet to my second router but I keep getting an error.
I enter the destination/prefix length in the format of 192.192.192.192/24 for example, the gateway as the external port of my second router and the interface as "Lan/Br0". Once I have done this I get the following message: "static route add error" and "config failed". It did work once but I hadn't entered the correct ip so I deleted it and now I can't enter anything.
Any help or ideas would be fantastic, I'm out of ideas.
Thanks
