Howto seperate a single computer from the network

Hello

I am using an adsl line to connect my home network to the internet. Is it possible to seperate a computer on my home network so that it cannot connect or transfer anything to any other computers on the network, but at the same time still use the adsl port to connect to the internet.

The computer that i want to isolate will be hard wired to the Billion 7800n router

Thanks in Advance

Dan

Just for the record. I am a Linux only user.

I think you would normally do this via Start > Ctrl Panel > Network and Internet and select Choose homegroup and sharing options > under Other homegroup actions select Change advanced sharing settings

Expand Home or Work and Public select Turn off File and printer sharing and Turn off Public folder sharing

They are turned on by default.

@Tomken

The OP is Linux only.

@danh123

Unless there's a clever way within the 7800 (which I can't see - but I'm no expert) I'd suggest something in your firewall(s) to block a specific IP address from access to a machine.

I was wondering about that but I just don't know enough about some of these things.

This guide suggests that maybe its an option: http://searchnetworking.techtarget.co.u ... onals#vlan

Don't feel too bad , it looks like the original post was edited after you made your post.

The guide I was refering to was NAT and NO NAT at the same time, you need a range of static IP's to do this.

The VLAN function on the 7800 is for IPTV for WAN connection only, and will not isolate LAN connections.
