Has been fine for years though many power outages.
Today it didn't reboot, no display lights and reset doesn't work.
Inside the unit behind the fascia there's a flashing light but nothing on the front.
Is it bricked or is there a fix?
If bricked with what do I replace it?
Or do I use this as the excuse to go FTTP?

Apologies for the double post. This is the correct one with through spelled correctly: the correction edit caused a duplicate.

I think the router is fatally destroyed so FTTP is the way forward unless someone has a quick fix for the 7800.

I bought a replacement & it just arrived. It powers up perfectly.
I had thought of plugging the good transformer into the duff one but am wary that a damaged router could damage it. What are the odds?
A few notes on the replacement:-
1 no feet, probably removed by previous owner.
2 looser antennas, my old one very stiff.
3 Billion name in middle of top, old has name at left & model at right. Labels underneath similar.
- is the name etc indicative of e.g. age?

Sure is but we're left with a bit of a problem.
Line distance from home to exchange is 700metres according to Openreach confirmed by Google maps. This should give an attainable rate close to the 24Mbps max d/l on ADSL2+.
I have stopped SNR tweaking (ran target at 4 for years but that's now unstable). Now entered -1 in SNR.
Attainable rate is 12124. Sync is 11579.
Attenuation is 17.5.
All of which is indicative of a line/exchange fault.

Router will be left for another day to let the DLM settle than try a tweak (I expect no improvement). If no improvement 48hrs later I will raise a ticket with my ISP (PlusNet) for investigation.

I realise that you say you have purchased a replacement (second hand?) but my experience with a lightning strike on my Billion 7800DXL was that everything seemed to work perfectly well post storm but I noted a loss of sync speed. We don't get very much here on an ADSL2 line as we are around 2.5 miles from our exchange, but I'm used to syncing around 8 to 9Mbps which is pretty good under the circumstances.
This speed dropped to below 4Mbps and, when I popped my spare router on to check, is was much faster (although nowhere near the best the Billion can achieve)
I spoke with Billion support and they agreed to send me out a replacement motherboard, not sure if this is something they still could do, and, after fitting that (extremely easy) it was off and running again as new.
So, might this be what has occurred with your DX?

As a side note to this, we had another hit just a couple of weeks ago, no warning, no storm, just a massive lightning hit following a hail shower. This one took out an expensive I.P. phone, and an 8 port network switch but not the Billion which is actually plugged in tot he phone socket so I'm very confused. Must have been through the power circuit this time?
