I've had the 7800n for three months and it performs superbly with my BE broadband service but today the wi-fi keeps dropping out for some reason

I'm on the latest "g" firmware and it happens on my laptop / ps3 and iPhone

Amy ideas?

Thanks ill do that. It's getting worse, it's not the wi-fi dropping out of range or anything- it just stops broadcasting and I'm sitting 4 feet away from it in my living room

Its currently not broadcasting and hasn't been for 10 minutes

I read on another forum that changing to wifi channel 7 can resolve this issue

I tried this and wifi came back immediately

It would seem that other users have come online in close proximity around you and are broadcasting on the same channel with the same or close signal strength to you.

You can monitor these other users with either of these two programs :-

Channel 7 may be fine for some and in this case was for you, but you can get channel overlap which can still cause you problems when someone is using the channel either side of you with a RSSI value within -20dBm of yours.

Channels 1, 6 and 11 are the only true 3 that don't overlap but can be the most populated, so the workaround would be to either use one of those that will give you a RSSI value of ~-50dBm with other users showing >= -80dBm, or to choose a channel which either isn't being used or an adjoining one that meets the same criteria.

In the UK you can use channels 1 - 13 - the States and some other countries, it's just 1 - 11.

If you use a microwave, then avoid using channel 9 and it's advocated to be at least 3 - 10ft away from one as that will also interfere with your wifi and the other no-no is not to have a cordless phone base right next to the router.

A RSSI value of -50dBm or less will produce the strongest signal strength for you and up to -70dBm the weakest, but anything above that will cause you connectivity problems and will be very noticeable as you move further from the router, as will the closer to -70dBm you use.

It turns out this hasn't fixed the issue, the exact same problem happened 2 hours later.
I switched to channel 6 , then 1, then 11 - no difference
Anyway only 1 of my neighbours has wifi and its too far away for my devices to even detect
