7800N with homeplugs very slow

Hi,

I recently upgraded to sky's fibre package, after following the guide on here I have managed to get my 7800n connected to the internet. Previously on sky ADSL with the same modem on speedtest.net I was attaining speeds around 13Mbps. However currently I am getting speeds of around 5Mbps max and sometimes as lows as 2Mbps. I have the router connected to my PC via a set of Devolo 500MBps homeplugs and previously all worked fine. I have tried testing the speed over the wireless using my iPhone and its managing to get as high as 20Mbps. Can anyone suggest were the issue might be? I'll be surprised if the homeplugs have suddenly given up the ghost at the same time as changing over the internet!

Is it possible I need to tweak the SNR at all? That was something I had to mess around with previously and the difference in speed I got was quite marked, its now set to default following a firmware upgrade and I can't recall what I did last time

Have you tried a hard wired connection directly to the router, taking the homeplug out of the equation?

You cannot tweak the SNR on the 7800N as it is using the EWAN connection. (The Sky fibre modem is syncing with your phone not the 7800N)

I did think the SNR might be defunct now!

I have tried a wired connection to my laptop and managed to get around 25Mbps through that, wiring to my main pc is impossible hence the use of homeplugs. I did manage to get a good 17MBps speed for a short while but thats now dropped off again. Just out of curiosity I connected up the original sky router and managed to get around 22MBps for all of ten minutes and now once again thats down through the floor.

It seems strange that there would suddenly be an issue through the homeplugs, they have not been moved through the whole process, the only things thats happened to them is the plug has been moved from the back of the router into the sky one initially and then back again

It does seem like your homeplugs are the issue, as you have verified the issues with the Sky router.

So it seems, connecting wirelessly to the sky router provides a good speed although its a bit intermittant as the distance is a bit too much for wireless, again another reason why I went for homeplugs. I might just have to try stealing back the ones I setup for my dad at his house and test out if they work
