Wake-On-LAN only partially working

Following the tips in this thread, I have static ARP and DHCP fixed host entries defined for the computer I want to use Wake-On-LAN on as well as port mapping to UDP port 9. WOL works with this configuration but only after I've turned the computer in question on and then turned it off again, which would suggest that the WOL packet is going to a dynamically created ARP entry and bypassing the static one. I can't get the computer to turn on through WOL if it hasn't already been on recently.

Does anyone know of a way around this? Is there a way of viewing or clearing the router's ARP table? My 7800n has 1.06f.dc1 firmware. Thanks in advance!

To manipulate the arp table you can telnet into the router and run :-
netctl arp add <IP address> <subnet mask>
netctl arp delete <IP address>
netctl arp show

The Static ARP entries and WOL over the internet work OK for me
I have tested this with the PC shutdown for at least 8 hours.
My router currently is running 1.06g.dc1, but Im sure I tested this with earlier versions of firmware.

When your PC is shut down for a long period of time is the link light on the router still on.
If the link light goes out it may be a problem at the PC end, not supplying power to the network card.
I have had issues with some devices where a forced power off (Finger on the button for 8 Seconds) causes the network card to power off (and the link light to go out).

Thanks for the helpful reply :) It turns out that the NIC and router link lights both stay off when the PC hasn't had any power to it for a while so the problem is at that end. Have tried updating to the latest BIOS version and clearing CMOS settings but am still getting the same problem. Gigabyte support (motherboard is a H77-D3H) haven't been able to come up with an answer yet so although it's not a Billion issue, I'd love to know if anyone knows of a fix for this...

when you go into the BIOS setup, you could (if you have not already) try pressing CTRL+F1
This may add/reveal hidden options in the bios that may be relevant.

You should check that a "power management" setting in the BIOS called ErP is disabled (If it's on it stops WOL working)

As test you could also try removing any add-in cards from the PC, in case they are responsible for drawing power away fron the NIC

Also in device manager, under properties for the NIC, on the Advanced tab
You could see if there are any relevant power settings there to try changing (settings to do with power saving/management)

Other than that I can't think of anything else at present.

ErP is disabled by default on my motherboard and the NIC Advanced properties are set to what they should be (Allow this device to wake the computer etc checked). The PC only has one add-in card (2-port Firewire PCI Express) and I haven't been able to try the PC without it yet but Gigabyte support seem to think there might be a fault on the motherboard so I might return it via my vendor. Thanks again for your help!
