Hi all,

I'm trying to factory reset my Billion 7800N and have pressed the reset button on the back of the router for 10 seconds, both turned on and off, without any success. I've tried a number of different variations on resetting the thing but it simply isn't resetting to factory defaults.

I'm unable to do it via the web interface as I'm unable to access the device as it's currently distributing 169.254.* IP addresses.

Any help would be very much appreciated!

Please make sure you use the reset pin hole, and not the WPS button that sticks out just below the reset pin hole.

You will need a paper clip or a pin to perform this and you need to hold it in for 10 seconds while the unit is powered on, it best to let the router fully start up before trying to reset the unit.

A power cycle is where you switch off the modem (if used), router and computer as well as disconnecting all cables.

Leave the modem or router switched off for at least 30secs then reconnect and switch on - allowing it to initialize before switching the computer back on.

If using a separate modem, repeat the steps with the router after the modem, before switching the computer back on.

That IP address is assigned to the network card by default by Windows when it can't get an address from the router if you're using DHCP.

You could change the PC's network card setting to , say, 192.168.1.2 with a mask of 255.255.255.0 and then maybe you could access the router.

You might also need to drop your firewall as this could be the reason for the problem.
